Trust Exercises

Synopsis Trust Exercises explores the tension between the poetics of group movement and its instrumentalisation for capitalist management. Amending the choreography of team-building and the visual grammars of corporate video, the film weaves together movement from three work spaces: a fictional start-up retreat, a body work session as an interview, and a dance rehearsal.

Director’s bio-filmography Sarah Friedland (1992) is a filmmaker and choreographer. After graduating in Modern Culture and Media at Brown University, she has worked in NYC for filmmakers including Steve McQueen, Mike S. Ryan, Kelly Reichardt, and the team behind HBO’s Girls. Her trilogy Movement Exercises consists of the short films Home Exercises (2017), Drills (2020) and Trust Exercises (2022). Her first feature film Familiar Touch (2024), in competition in the Orizzonti section at the 81st Venice Film Festival, was awarded for Best Director, Best Actress and Lion of the Future – Debut Film.
