The director was born in Sri Lanka from a Chinese father and a Sri Lankan mother. His Chinese heritage was a point of departure in this film which investigates the process by which an image is constructed in places foreign from that of the director. The condition of distance, embedded in the ethnographic image, traces the elusive qualities of his mother’s past and persona.
Director’s bio-filmography
Rajee Samarasinghe (1988) is a Sri Lankan filmmaker and visual artist. He received his BFA from the University of California San Diego and his MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. He was presented withthe Arri – Film House Award for visionary film-making at the Athens International Film + Video Festival, the Vimeo – Audience Award at Crossroads (San Francisco), and a Jury Award at the Sydney Underground Film Festival.
