Commodity City is an observational documentary, exploring the daily lives of vendors who work in the largest wholesale consumer market in the world: the Yiwu Markets in China. The film explores moments of tension between commerce and individuality, between the goods for sale and the humans who sell them.
Director’s bio-filmography
Jessica Kingdon (1986) is a Chinese-American director and producer who is interested in the intersection of experimental cinema and mainstream media. She got her BA in Film Studies from the Columbia University and her MA in Media Studies from The New School in New York. Her episodic series Fanwei was selected for the 2017 Spotlight on Documentary IFP Film Week. As an independent producer she co-produced the feature film Old Stone by Johnny Ma, which premiered at the Berlinale 2016 and won Best Canadian First Feature at TIFF 2016. She is co-producing Colin Healey’s feature film For Entertainment Purposes.
